Reusable Breast Milk Storage Bags | World Breastfeeding Week
At Zip Top, we want to make breastfeeding simpler for moms.
That’s why Zip Top’s founder, Rebecca Finell, launched the first reusable pure silicone breast milk storage bag in 2020. With a long history in the baby industry - having founded Boon, a premium baby product company, in 2004 - she knew there were better options for nursing mothers than single-use plastic disposable milk bags and wanted to provide mom's with a better storage solution.
In honor of World Breastfeeding Week, we’ve teamed up with International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Rachel Stone, to answer questions you may have as a new mom or a mom of many.
Q: What could help ease the routines for moms (and dads) as they save, store, and prepare their milk for their babies?
A: When storing breast milk, moms have a lot of concerns. They have to keep CDC storage guidelines in mind, make sure to not "overfill" the bag, and they want to know they're using a reliable product. The worst feeling in the world for a pumping mom is losing some of their precious breast milk to a faulty or leaking storage bag. In my experience, many disposable products can have these issues. Unfortunately, that's just the nature of things. With the durability of Zip Top products, these concerns diminish greatly.
Q: What are the unique challenges working mothers face as they try to balance work and breastfeeding?
A: Returning to work is one of the most challenging experiences for a breastfeeding mother. In fact, we know that it's one of the #1 reasons that mothers choose to end breastfeeding. If a mom feels supported during her transition back to work, it could mean the difference between meeting her goals and giving up. Storing breast milk should be the least of a breastfeeding mother's concerns and I believe the convenience of a reusable storage bag could truly replace their concerns with reassurance.
Q: How do you see Zip Top milk bags helping with your clients’ breast milk needs?
A: Zip Top milk bags are durable, reusable, and safe. Working moms want reliable products that support their breastfeeding journeys and Zip Top milk bags help to propel working mothers forward. Mothers can go back to work with less stress! Mothers can continue breastfeeding! And with the help of companies like Zip Top, we can continue to support these moms with reliability.
